Getting around Dublin is relatively easy compared to most capital cities. The main modes of transport are taxi, bus and the DART.
Make sure you have a reliable map and any bus route numbers and stop locations that you might need. At night-time a limited amount of bus services operate up to 4.30am to suburban areas (except Sundays) Be prepared for a long wait if you want a taxi after the pubs and clubs close especially at the weekends!!

Taxis in Dublin:

There are three main taxi ranks in Dublin city centre, O'Connell Street, Dame Street (opposite Trinity College) and St. Stephens Green. It is normal practice to queue for a taxi but some will pick up along the street, outside peak times. The normal fare is (avg) £1 per mile, but the driver will usually give you an estimate before you travel if you ask. In the suburbs there are plenty of local taxi ranks, but again, there never seems to be enough to go around! Plan in advance!

Dublin Bus:
The Dublin Bus network is extremely busy at all times, especially at rush hour morning and evening, (7-8am/ 5-6pm) make sure you allow extra time if you are travelling at these hours. Fares vary from 65p to £1.30 depending on your journey. Travel cards for multiple journeys are available on a daily/weekly/monthly basis and you can also purchase combined rail & bus tickets. D.A.R.T. (Dublin Area Rapid Transport)
The DART is an electrified train service which runs for 25 miles along Dublins coast from Howth in the north to Bray in the South. It serves three stations in Dublin city centre: Connolly, Tara Street and Pearse street station. It is mainly used by commuters in and out of the city to the suburbs. A popular day trip is to take the DART out to the sea-side to Killiney or Howth Head. A feeder bus operates from certain ares of the city to link in with the nearest DART station. To & From Dublin Airport:
Dublin Airport is located approximately five miles from the city centre a taxi fare should cost no more than IR£18 and takes 20 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. There are shuttle buses which operate to and from the Airport to the main bus station, Bus Aras and the main rail Stations, Hueston/ Connolly Station. From here you may link to buses or trains to the rest of the country.
